Here at the Science Centre we value the environment and desire to conserve and protect it for our future generations.
The Centre is aligned to the University of Wollongong’s commitment to environmental sustainability outlined in the UOW Environment Policy. UOW’s environment management system operates to implement principles and practices of environmental sustainability, including those outlined in the UOW Environmental Management Plan 2014-2016. This system is continually looking to implement initiatives and strategies to reduce UOW’s environmental footprint.
In addition to the adherence of policy, the Centre currently maintains a nutrient-rich worm farm, through reusing the organic food wastage gathered throughout the centre. We also seek to encourage correct waste removal and recycling through clear signage and instructions for the public and staff members.
To ensure further communication on the importance of environmental sustainability, our Puckey’s Nature Walk, which is an option for group visits, includes education around pollution, waste removal, natural habitats and general environmental care. We are also currently producing a Kitchen Garden program that will incorporate ethical and healthy eating initiatives.
