Easter School Holiday Show Schedule

We are open extended hours from 9am-5pm every weekday during the April school holidays. We are open 10am-4pm on weekends, Good Friday, Easter Monday and Anzac Day (closed on Easter Sunday).

Please note:

  • Our live Science Shows are included in general admission prices. Planetarium shows are an additional charge. For more information see our ticket prices
  • In peak busy times such as school holidays, shows can book out. Please arrive early to avoid disappointment. Tickets are unable to be reserved and are issued on a first come, first served basis. Extra shows may be added on busy days.
  • Doors open 10min prior to start of shows. There is no late admission to planetarium shows.

 For all budding gemologists. Learn how crystals grow in nature, create liquid nitrogen ice cream and make scented bath crystals to take home!

A dastardly 'crime' has been committed at the Science Centre! Solve the crime of who stole the Smarties using footprints, fingerprints, chromatography, handwriting analysis and hair samples.

BUBBLES & BURPS

Tuesday 18th April

Morning session 9:30am-11am 

Afternoon session 2:30pm-4pm

Why do some foods and drinks have bubbles in them? How is bread made? Learn about detergents and surface tension through some bubble-tastic experiments. Create your own bubble bath and bubble wands to take home.

FIZZY SCIENCE

Friday 21st April

Morning session 9:30am-11am

Afternoon session 2:30pm-4pm

Learn about acids and bases as we make our fizzy lemonade and sherbet to take home.  Explode a zip lock bag and experience the famous Diet Coke and Mentos geyser experiment. School holiday chemistry fun!

  • Tickets are $20 /child per workshop for Science Centre Members and $25 for non-members. (workshop ticket price includes a child general entry ticket to the Science Centre)
  • Workshops will run for 90 minutes.
  • Morning workshops are repeated again in the afternoon. You do not need to book for both workshops.
  • Suitable for 6 - 10 year olds. Children MUST be within the required age range to attend each workshop.
  • Online ticket pre-purchase is essential.
  • Tickets are not refundable
  • Workshops will start and finish PROMPTLY. Please be ready at reception to collect your child once the workshop has finished. (adults are not required to stay during workshops)

EASTER SCIENCE HUNT 2017 new UOW template LANDSCAPE web banner

Our annual Easter Science Hunt returns on Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Monday! Solve the clues to find the eggs hidden all over the Science Centre. Return your completed answer sheet to Reception to win your prize! We will also have special Easter themed busking activities and shows running for the whole family.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • The Easter Hunt is free after paid entry and no bookings are required

  • One prize per completed answer sheet

  • We will be CLOSED on Easter Sunday


DANCING UNDER THE STARS WORKSHOP - for ages 0-6

Join our friends from the Early Start Discovery Space for a fun, interactive morning for younger visitors in our Planetarium. Enjoy movement, storytelling and glow dancing in the dark.

Tickets are only $3/child with paid general entry ($2 for Science Centre members).

Tickets will be available for purchase on the day from the front Reception counter. Tickets will be sold on a first come, first served basis. Limited places available.

CIY HOLIDAY CODING CAMPS for ages 7-17

GAME CODING CAMP

Wednesday 12th April

 

Full day 9am-3pm

             

 Learn the basics of computer coding and game creation. We teach you how to make your very first computer game, and in just one day you will be able to put together a few different games including graphics and basic coding to make it interactive. You can take your games home and continue to develop them. Game Coding Camps are for beginners and intermediate Coders alike, with content suitable for attendees to learn the foundations and design different games.

 Full day 9am-3pm  Join the CIY.Club community and attend a full day, Club session. Clubs allow Coders to embark on a journey which will see them Learn, Train and Master skills for the future. Pathways start at the basics, from Game Coding and 3D design. Their progression may open doors to more advanced challenges in these topics, as well as 3D printing, Website Development, Robotics or App Design.

Come and learn the foundations underlying some of today’s most exciting areas of Technology!
